Our services include...
The Problem Medical Bill Assessment to identify opportunities to challenge your bill.
A formal Letter of Dispute specific to your bill and circumstances, mailed by Patient Fairness with documentation of receipt by the provider.
A Medical Bill Price Review to compare the charges on the bill to the prices Medicare would pay for the same services, and to a hospital's actual cost to render services.
Tools and information to help customers deal with the provider regarding the medical bill dispute, and offer and settlement templates to work towards a resolution.
Customers initially pay only $49 to open a Problem Medical Bill case with Patient Fairness. The low initial payment allows a customer to kick off his or her dispute by approving the Letter of Dispute for Patient Fairness to mail to the provider. Customers pay any remaining balance 60 days after the initial payment.
Patient Fairness charges fixed prices for a Full Suite of Services based on the size of the problem medical bill. The prices correspond to how much customers can potentially save in the dispute, but are fixed so a customer doesn’t overpay to dispute a bill.
If you are not satisfied with Patient Fairness regarding a medical bill case, then notify us within the first 60 days of the initial payment that you want to close your dispute case. Patient Fairness will not charge you the remaining portion of the Case Price beyond the $49 Initial Payment, and will close the case as requested.
The Medical Bill: How much are you being billed?¹ | Initial Payment ² | Total Price ³ |
---|---|---|
<= $500 | $49 | $49 |
$500 - $2,000 | $49 | $99 |
$2,000 - $10,000 | $49 | $199 |
$10,000 - $20,000 | $49 | $299 |
> $20,000 | $49 | $499 |
1. The amount due from the patient or billed person according to the medical bill.
2. The portion of the total price charged for the initial payment.
3. The total price for the case. The total price (minus the Initial Payment) will be charged 60 days after the initial payment.
Patient Fairness vs. Alternatives
Don’t Overpay Using a Percent of Savings Fee
Alternatives to Patient Fairness may charge for services based on a percentage, usually about 20%, of the savings you achieve off the medical bill. A percentage of savings-based charge has two big disadvantages to patients: (1) It can lead to ridiculously high fees to fight a medical bill. (2) The firm won’t help on medical bills of less than $5,000 or so because they don’t think it will be worth their effort.
High Fees and Percentage of Savings
“We only charge based on what you save on the bill.” That is a common tagline for fees based on a percentage of savings. But under that model if you save a lot on the medical bill, you are paying a lot as a fee. For example, a percentage of savings fee to get a provider to rescind a $10,000 problem medical bill would cost $2,000 (20% of $10,000). In that case, the patient doesn’t really save $10,000 by getting the bill dismissed. The patient saves a net $8,000 because he or she pays $2,000 as fee to get the bill rescinded. With Patient Fairness’s flat prices, the patient pays only $199, meaning he or she saves a net of $9,801.
Example: Customer Savings and Fee and Net Savings – Provider Rescinds a $10,000 Problem Medical Bill
Patient Fairness | Others Using a % of Savings Fee | |
---|---|---|
Savings on Medical Bill | $10,000 | $10,000 |
Customer Fee - Total | $199 | $2,000 |
Customer Savings After Fee | $9,801 | $8,000 |
Savings vs. % of Savings | $1,801 | - |
No Help for Bills Under $5,000
Most firms that charge a percentage of savings to help with problem medical bills will not work on a bill under $5,000, or a similarly high level. That is because they don’t think they can earn a sufficient fee under a percentage of savings unless the bill is large enough to begin with. Patient Fairness will handle any size problem medical bill. Because our fees start at only $49, we help patients with bills other firms consider not worth their time.
You have so much to gain by finding out if Patient Fairness can help with your problem medical bill.
